I have been teaching for over twelve years now, and I plan to continue teaching because I find watching students progress to be rewarding. I particularly like the idea of teaching in secondary school. I have enjoyed working with teenagers since I was a Burger King manager in my early twenties. Full of youth and energy, teenagers are often perceived as difficult, but I find that the majority of them are directing that energy into worthwhile pursuits.
I taught English as a foreign language overseas for 10 years, and I have been teaching high school French for almost two years now. I have a passion for the language, civilization, and culture of the entire Francophone world, and I feel that I pass my enthusiasm on to my students.
My long-term professional goals are to develop a more differentiated approach to my teaching, and to develop my French teaching techniques by studying at Cavilam, a school in Vichy, France which offers courses for teachers of French. I would also like to chaperon students on occasional summer tours of France.
